For some miniatures though, something else is required, and in this instance, how to present something worthy of Lord and Lady McDeath. Answer was obvious - recreate the cover of the Tragedy of McDeath guidebook, a Tableau Vivante made of miniatures.
Some background info: The Tragedy of McDeath was a box set campaign for Warhammer 2nd Ed. It was based on Shakespeare's play
So anyway, I am very fortunate to not only have the McDeaths but a good number of appropriate figures to fill out the battle scene above. There are, though, some glaring holes to be filled. Klinty the Treeman is the most glaring, the hardest to find (cheaply) is Sir John Quicksure (the mounted knight behind Dart with the flaming sword). And there are figures not shown but would be nice to include, like the wizards Een McWrecker and Chalconer.
Stage one is planning. Composition is absolutely key to making the scene work in 3 dimensions. It will not get done quickly.

This sounds like a great project - I'd like to do the same with Orc's Drift but I aint paying the money for Hafgar Sheol!
ReplyDeleteGood luck in tracking Klinty and the others down.
I was going to use Hagar in this... but now you mention Orc's Drift I may now do something like that. Brommedir and Erdolas vs Hagar and orcs...
DeleteVery good idea! Will you do some kind of diorama? I can help you finding missing minis by spotting them on eBay.
ReplyDeleteYep, it'll be a full on diorama. Assistance in mini spotting would be useful. I already sighted a Klinty, perhaps the most important component.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to rain on your parade but that's not Spot. The McDeath Spot figure has a pointy-ended scorpion-like tail. I can post a pic if you're interested.
ReplyDeleteYes I know. I need a running hound for the scorpion tail and dupes for a conversion job (the one in the photo I've had for a loooong time and will remain inviolate). Is there an accurate Hound variant that isn't represented in the compendium? Certainly wasn't on the McDeath mini sheet. Scorpion tail, two hounds with open mouths, roughly a tenner each. No cash for that sort of thing for a long while yet ;/
DeleteOh and thanks for following :)
